It’s that time again for the annual McNees Tax Seminar. This seminar is a must-attend event for accountants, in-house tax personnel and private and government tax attorneys.

Speakers will touch on both Pennsylvania tax issues and federal tax issues. Additionally, representatives from Pennsylvania’s tax appeal agencies will be giving updates on their respective offices during the lunch hour. After the seminar, join us for a networking cocktail hour.

8:10 – 9:00 a.m. – PA Property Tax Update
In this session, Paul Morcom will cover all the major issues in property tax assessments, including taxing jurisdiction appeals and upcoming county-wide reassessments.

9:00 – 9:45 a.m. – Overview of Charitable Exemptions with Updates
In this session, Adam Koelsch will provide an overview of the charitable exemption as it applies to both sales and use tax and real estate tax, with a discussion of related, recent court cases.

9:45 – 10:00 a.m. – Break 

10:00 – 10:45 a.m. – PA Sales and Use Tax Exemptions and Exclusions & Multistate Transactions
In this session, Sharon Paxton will discuss various sales tax implications of multistate transactions and provide an overview of Pennsylvania sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions.

10:45 – 11:15 a.m. – PA Realty Transfer Tax Update
In this session, David Evenhuis will delve into the exemptions from Realty Transfer Tax and various pitfalls that practitioners encompass when transferring property in Pennsylvania

11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – PA Real Estate Tax Sale Law Update
Join Ryan Gonder for an essential overview of Pennsylvania’s Real Estate Tax Sale Law (“RETSL”) and its impact on your clients. This session will cover practical strategies for navigating real estate records, analyze recent Commonwealth Court and Pennsylvania Supreme Court decisions affecting RETSL, and explore how these rulings may influence broader areas of practice.

Speakers to include: Ryan Froman – Chair of Board of Appeals and Tom Watson – Secretary of Board of Finance and Revenue.

Devin ChwastykChristian Wolgemuth, and Kayla Bushey – members of the McNees Privacy & Data Security Group – will discuss industry regulations and requirements for maintaining the privacy and security of tax and accounting professionals’ client data and best practices for protecting organizations from cybersecurity threats.

2:00 – 2:35 p.m. – Estate Planning Update
In this session, Brian Honness will cover the current tax laws associated with gift and estate planning, including the annual gift exclusions and the lifetime gift, estate tax exemption amounts, and current planning techniques

.2:35 – 3:10 p.m. – ERISA/Employee Benefits Update
In this session, Renée Lieux will address the recent changes in law and DOL regulatory guidance affecting your employee benefit plans.

3:10 – 3:20 p.m. – Break

3:20 – 4:30 p.m. – One Big Beautiful Bill Act Overview
In this session, Tim Finnerty and Justin Abodalo will discuss various topics from the recently passed ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’, including the changes to Section 1202 (Qualified Small Business Stock); reforms to R&D expenses; the new deductions for cash tips and overtime; sunsetting clean energy tax credits; various others.
