Labor and Employment

Workplace decisions can have immediate operational effects and lasting legal consequences. We help employers respond confidently, strengthen compliance, and defend their decisions when challenged.

Our focus

Workplace decisions that work now and hold up later

Employment issues rarely unfold on a convenient schedule. An employee complaint, accommodation request, leave question, labor dispute, or government investigation may require action before every fact is known. We help employers respond to the immediate issue while considering the legal and operational consequences of the decision.

We partner with employers to address the federal and state laws governing the workplace and advise employers on multi-state compliance. Our attorneys conduct human resources audits and workplace investigations, develop policies and handbooks, and train supervisors, managers, and employees. We also advise on affirmative action, family and medical leave, occupational safety and health, wage and hour compliance, unemployment compensation, and other regulatory obligations.

When a matter becomes contested, we defend employers before state and federal administrative agencies and in state and federal courts. Our experience includes discrimination and harassment claims, wrongful discharge, whistleblower claims, wage and hour litigation, and restrictive covenant disputes. We also represent public- and private-sector employers in labor negotiations, labor arbitration, and other disputes with unions. We assist non-union employers with union organizing campaigns as well.

Many clients rely on us for both day-to-day counseling and significant disputes. We develop long-term partnerships with clients to understand their businesses and culture. We learn how their organizations operate and develop strategies around their workforce, goals, and approach to risk. Our team also includes employee benefits, executive compensation, workplace safety (OSHA), and workers’ compensation attorneys, allowing us to bring the appropriate experience to the issue while maintaining continuity across the relationship.
