Our focus
Post-trial and appellate proceedings require a different kind of strategy. The record is set, the issues are narrower, and the argument often turns on identifying the legal and procedural points most likely to matter to the appellate court.
We help clients evaluate post-trial options, preserve important issues, and pursue or defend appeals. We advise on post-trial motions, interlocutory appeals, appellate strategy, briefing, oral argument, emergency appellate relief, amicus briefs, and petitions for discretionary review.
Our appellate attorneys bring a fresh view to the case. We help clients assess what happened at trial, identify the strongest appellate issues, and assess how judges may view the record. When appellate issues arise during the initial stages of active litigation, we work with trial counsel to help preserve arguments and strengthen the client’s position before an appeal is filed.
Whether protecting a favorable ruling or challenging an adverse decision, we develop a focused appellate strategy that aligns with the case’s stakes and the client’s immediate and long-term goals.
We have represented clients in Pennsylvania and Maryland appellate courts, , and Fourth Circuits, as well as other state and federal appellate courts across the country.
Several members of the group began their legal careers as clerks to state or federal appellate judges, giving the team practical insight into how appellate courts review records and evaluate legal arguments. We also work with trial counsel before and during trial when appellate guidance may help preserve issues or strengthen the record for later review.
We have extensive experience in original jurisdiction matters before the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court, a court unique in its authority over state-related civil claims at multiple stages.
