Jim represents businesses, nonprofits, and professionals in white-collar criminal defense and internal investigations. He advises clients facing investigations by state and federal authorities, including grand jury, regulatory, and administrative investigations.
Jim was a federal prosecutor for 30 years, both at Main Justice in Washington, D.C., and in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He has unmatched experience in the federal court system and is well known among prosecutors, fellow defense attorneys, and judges for his integrity. During his time as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, he prosecuted a multitude of cases, including a variety of frauds, tax evasion and false reporting, counterfeiting, money laundering, public corruption, child exploitation, threats, forfeitures, wildlife offenses, environmental crimes, international parental kidnapping, drug and firearms offenses, and capital murder. He served as chief of the Asset Forfeiture Unit for eight years and as the first chief of the Victims’ Rights and Asset Recovery Unit for five years. He wrote dozens of briefs submitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and argued many cases in that court.
Before joining the Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program, Jim served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Sylvia H. Rambo of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Jim has been a member of the Adjunct Advocacy Faculty at the Dickinson School of Law, teaching Trial Advocacy since 1998.
