McNees Wallace & Nurick today announced that attorney Sherlyn Martinez has joined the firm’s State and Local Tax Group in Radnor, where she will advise businesses on state and local tax matters.
Martinez advises clients on tax planning, compliance and tax considerations related to business operations and transactions. Her work includes state income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, and the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
“Sherlyn is a great addition to our team,” said Paul Morcom, who leads the firm’s State and Local Tax Group. “She already has a strong foundation in state and local tax, along with experience looking at those issues in the context of business transactions. That combination will be valuable as she works with our clients and continues to grow her practice at McNees.”
Before joining McNees, Martinez worked in the state and local tax practice at a global professional services firm, where she advised buyers and sellers on tax considerations related to mergers and acquisitions across a range of industries. Her work included tax due diligence, planning, restructuring and post-acquisition matters.
For Martinez, joining McNees provides an opportunity to build on that experience while expanding her work with businesses on state and local tax matters.
“I wanted to be part of a firm that values both excellence and balance, and McNees felt like the right fit,” Martinez said. “Growing up around family members who are business owners taught me to look beyond the legal issue and understand the practical realities a client faces. I’m looking forward to bringing that perspective to the team here and helping clients work through the tax issues that come up as they grow and do business.”
During law school, Martinez served as assistant director of Temple University Beasley School of Law’s Low-Income Tax Clinic, where she assisted taxpayers with IRS audits, collections, liens, and levies, and other federal tax matters. She also supervised and trained law students on client matters and case management.
Martinez earned her law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law and bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and political science from Penn State.
