Overview

Abbe represents business owners, state agencies, and municipal governments in a broad range of employment matters for employers, with a focus on defending litigation claims under the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other federal, state, and local laws.

Her practice ranges from proactively counseling clients on compliance with discrimination laws in hiring, evaluating, and discharging employees, to defending clients before administrative bodies and courts. Abbe represents employers in the enforcement of trade secrets and restrictive covenants. Abbe also advises clients on employment issues arising out of mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence.

Abbe regularly assists clients with:

  • HR investigations
  • Wage and hour litigation
  • Drafting employment policies, employment agreements, and severance agreements
  • Counseling, compliance, and guidance in employment law matters

Prior to joining the firm, Abbe served as deputy general counsel to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Governor’s Office for four years and senior deputy attorney general in the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General for 11 years. She has argued before the Pennsylvania Commonwealth, Superior, and Supreme Courts, and has acted as lead counsel in state and federal court bench and jury trials.

Abbegael is a trained mediator and serves on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania’s Certified Mediation Panel, with experience in employment, constitutional, civil litigation, and environmental law. She also frequently writes and speaks about employment law developments relating to restrictive covenants.
