September 9, 2021
Press Releases

HARRISBURG, Pa. – (September 9, 2021) McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC cybersecurity attorney Devin Chwastyk will explain common cyber financial threats and strategies to combat them to individual and business banking customers of M&T Bank at a webinar on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021.

Chwastyk, chair of the McNees Privacy & Data Security Group, will join three other thought leaders on the panel to discuss methods to recover lost financial resources from cyberthieves; services financial institutions can implement upon request to protect their customers; and ways to become aware of potential counterfeited checks, wire transfer impersonations and computer hackings.

Since 2005 when he represented merchants and banking institutions in some of the first successful data breach lawsuits in U.S. federal courts, the focus of Chwastyk’s practice has been cybersecurity issues. He represented dozens of entities victimized by cyberattacks and helped those clients limit their liability and meet their notification obligations. Additionally, he advises companies on emerging and existing privacy laws at all levels of government – such as FERPA, HIPPA, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the California Protection Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation – and assists those clients in building their internal privacy compliance programs.

Chwastyk has earned two Certified Information Privacy Professional designations (CIPP/US and CIPP/Europe) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
