The Risks and Benefits of the Bring Your Own Device Workplace

Let’s face it, nearly all of your employees have smartphones. Whether you encourage, support or merely tolerate their business use, this session will address the benefits of a BYOD workplace (increased employee satisfaction, decreased corporate expenses, convenience) as well as the risks (unintended overtime, loss of data, portability of confidential or proprietary information).

Brian Jackson and Jennifer Will, attorneys in the McNees Labor & Employment Law practice group, will offer practical tips for implementing understandable BYOD policies for employees. Effective policies give employees clear direction regarding privacy expectations, what is permitted, what is prohibited, which platforms and software are supported and what the consequences are for misuse. A solid BYOD policy is also crucial to the pursuit and defense of many employment claims.
