LANCASTER, Pa. (Aug. 10, 2026) — McNees Wallace & Nurick today announced that attorney Phillip Michael has joined the firm’s Litigation Group in its Lancaster office.
Michael brings more than a decade of litigation experience in both the private and public sectors. He joins McNees from a Lancaster-based law firm and previously served as deputy attorney general for the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, representing Commonwealth agencies and departments in state and federal court.
Earlier in his career, Michael served as an assistant public defender manager and an assistant public defender in the Lancaster County Public Defender’s Office.
At McNees, Michael will focus on commercial and civil litigation, representing businesses and individuals in contract and business ownership disputes, real estate and employment matters, as well as municipal and civil rights claims, while also supporting the firm’s higher education clients.
“Phillip brings the kind of courtroom experience and practical judgment clients need when navigating complex, high-stakes commercial disputes,” said Stephanie Carfley, chair of McNees’ Litigation Group. “He knows how to prepare a matter from inception through trial, all the while keeping the client’s broader objectives top of mind.”
Michael’s courtroom experience spans state and federal jury trials, along with appellate work before Pennsylvania’s Superior and Commonwealth Courts.
“I learned to be a lawyer on my feet, and that experience taught me the value of preparation and sound judgment,” Michael said. “I’m excited to bring that perspective to the firm’s commercial litigation practice and continue growing my work with higher education clients.”
Michael earned his law degree from Temple University and a bachelor’s degree in political science and English from Gettysburg College.
