With increasing hostility on social media platforms, many companies are looking to tighten social media policies and step up monitoring to manage reputational risk. Labor and employment attorney Micah Saul was recently quoted in The Washington Post discussing how employees are increasingly facing disciplinary action for social media activity.
Micah, who regularly speaks on emerging employment best practices, noted that the recent crackdown stems from companies having “peeled back” from commenting on political and social issues, recognizing that “the folks who are paying for their products or services might not share their opinions.”
“But monitoring workers’ social media activity around the clock is taxing and impractical given how much of life is lived online,” said Micah. “Even if you do have those resources… you don’t want to be Big Brother,” he added.
Micah is a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group, with over a decade of experience, offering clients accessible and practical guidance on issues ranging from employee management and workplace policies to discrimination, harassment, labor matters, and workers’ compensation.
