Kayla Bushey is a privacy and data security attorney who supports clients with regulatory compliance, artificial intelligence governance, and cross-border data transfer issues. Her work focuses on data privacy law across federal, state, and international frameworks, with a particular emphasis on children’s privacy, student data protections, and emerging AI policies.
Prior to McNees, Kayla served as a Westin Research Fellow at the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), where she authored research and member resources on global privacy trends. She also worked with the Future of Privacy Forum, analyzing student privacy policies and evaluating compliance with federal laws. Her experience includes legal internships with the Federal Communications Commission’s Space Bureau, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Culpeper Circuit Court.
Kayla is a Certified Information Privacy Professional – United States (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. She earned her law degree cum laude from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where she completed the Law and Technology Institute Certificate and served as Managing Note and Comment Editor of the Journal of Law and Technology. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
