FREDERICK, Md. — (Nov. 29, 2023) McNees added its first Maryland-based team member to the firm’s growing Automotive Dealership Law Group, which serves clients nationally and across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Ilan Weinberger is a mergers and acquisitions attorney who negotiates and closes large transactions for automotive dealerships and other privately and publicly held companies in a variety of industries. For a decade, he has served clients in a wide range of industries, advising and guiding them through the transaction process – from preparing the necessary sale or purchase documents and interacting with lenders to leading the closing process. In addition, Weinberger routinely advises clients on compliance, consumer, franchise and general business matters.

“Companies and organizations looking to partner, merge, sell or buy need a trusted advisor by their side every step of the way,” Brian F. Jackson, chair of McNees, said. “We are honored to be that trusted advisor for a growing number of auto dealerships across the region, and we’re thrilled to add Ilan to our team. He brings tremendous M&A experience and serves as an added value for our auto dealer clients.”

McNees’ Automotive Dealership Law Group serves new and used auto, commercial truck, motorcycle, recreational vehicle and powersports dealers, providing guidance on their legal challenges and opportunities in today’s highly regulated business environment. The multidisciplinary team is best known for its transactional work, advising dealerships on the unique aspects of acquisitions and sales, new dealer formations and franchising. Its members also support clients with a full range of legal and business needs including environmental, labor and employment, Department of Transportation matters, vehicle registrations, consumer protection matters, family business succession planning and taxes.

Before joining McNees, Weinberger was a transactional and business attorney with three Global 100 firms, where he handled matters including sales of closely held businesses, buyouts, recapitalizations, corporate formations and reorganizations, governance matters, private equity and venture capital. He had a successful career in information technology before becoming an attorney, working with a private technology and management consulting firm that served the U.S. Army and with Walter Reed Medical Center. He speaks French, Hebrew and some Slovak.

Weinberger earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, graduating cum laude. He earned his graduate degree in Religious Studies from Georgetown University and Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Maryland, graduating cum laude.

“When it comes to mergers and acquisitions, trust is the No. 1 commodity — both parties must operate from a position of mutual trust and respect,” Weinberger said. “Those are the same qualities I look for in a law firm, and it’s why I’m so excited to join McNees, which has a strong reputation of integrity and a people-first culture.”

McNees has experienced significant growth over the past two years, strategically enhancing the firm’s range and reach of client services. It expanded its geographic footprint across Pennsylvania, first in Devon, Chester County, in February 2021, followed by Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, in December 2021 with a team of eight construction, real estate and corporate attorneys. McNees doubled its bench of legal talent in Frederick, Md., to include attorneys who practice in real estate, construction, corporate and tax law, among others, then relocated the team to a larger office. In April, it launched a new Baltimore County office.

In addition to its legal practice, McNees expanded its title company, Pine Street Land Company, which includes a team of Pennsylvania- and Maryland-licensed title agents that conduct commercial and residential real estate settlements. Beyond serving clients’ legal needs, McNees launched four new ancillary businesses to meet client needs for public relations and strategic communicationsmunicipal consultingauto dealership transaction services and human resource management and strategy.
