HARRISBURG, PA (February 6, 2017) – Leading M&A attorneys, Stephen C. Gierasch and Meera R. Modi joined McNees Wallace & Nurick today. Over the last several years at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, they have built what many in the Central Pennsylvania business and legal communities regard as one of the pre-eminent M&A legal practices. In addition to working with businesses, investors and principals in M&A, Gierasch and Modi are trusted legal advisors to many of Central PA’s leading businesses.

“Over the last several years, as we have built our M&A/Trusted Advisor practice, we have admired and respected McNees’ wide-ranging corporate law platform,” Gierasch said. “So, the opportunity to make the McNees corporate law platform available to our client-base, was one that was simply too good to pass up.”

Gierasch leaves Buchanan after 19 years, where he was the Managing Shareholder of its Harrisburg office since 2009, as well as having served on the firm’s Board of Directors since 2012.  While maintaining these leadership posts at Buchanan, Gierasch has developed a sterling reputation as a leading corporate lawyer and was selected by The Best Lawyers in America as the “Corporate Lawyer of the Year” in Central Pennsylvania in 2015.

“Steve’s experience and leadership will significantly strengthen our firm as we continue to grow our corporate and M&A practice.” McNees Chairman David M. Kleppinger said. “An accomplished and well-known leader in the Central Pennsylvania business community, Steve’s reputation is that of a dealmaker who combines exceptional legal acumen with a pragmatic approach, all of which is utilized to meet his client’s objectives and get deals done.”

An alum of Bucknell University, Gierasch received his J.D. from the Penn State Dickinson School of Law. In 2011, 2012, and 2013, he was named a Rising Star by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers in corporate law, and has been named to The Best Lawyers in America list each year since 2012.

Additionally, Gierasch is the current Vice-Chairman of the Whitaker Center’s Board of Directors, a member of the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors Central Pennsylvania Board, and a member of Vistage, a peer-to-peer, CEO organization.

Modi, seen by many in the Central Pennsylvania business community as a gifted corporate lawyer/trusted advisor in her own right, has developed a reputation as a leading M&A transactions “quarterback” that manages transactions to successful conclusion.

Admitted to the bar in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, Modi has a B.A. and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), respectively. She received her J.D. from Vanderbilt University and along with her time at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney worked as an associate attorney for McDermott Will & Emery LLP in Washington, D.C. where she gained experience in federal securities law compliance, mergers and acquisitions for public and private companies, and general corporate compliance.

“Meera brings to McNees exceptional corporate law experience, and community involvement that well exceed her years as an attorney,” Kleppinger said. “She will be a valuable asset to the firm, both internally and externally and we pride ourselves on bringing in top-notch lawyers like Meera, whose talent most importantly will inure to the benefit of our corporate clientele.”

In 2015, Modi was named one of the Central Penn Business Journal’s “40 Under 40.” She is a member of the Board of Directors of Operation Medical and Très Bonne Année, and is a member of the Junior League of Harrisburg.
