Legal Project Manager

McNees Wallace & Nurick is looking to add an experienced Legal Project Manager (LPM) to its growing Administrative Team.

The LPM will develop process improvement initiatives and use project management methodologies to assist timekeepers and non-billable staff to find efficiencies in the way they organize and perform work for our clients. The LPM will report to the Director of Legal Project Management and will work closely with the Chairman, Executive Committee, Administrative Teams, and Practice Group Leaders to develop project management initiatives in support of the Firm and our clients’ goals. The LPM will be responsible for acting as a pricing facilitator to develop budgets or AFAs (Alternative Fee Arrangements) with targeted implementation plans for client-facing projects in close partnership with the Firm attorneys and Administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: “Essential functions” are primarily job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer.

  • Work directly with timekeepers and the administrative team members to develop matter-based SCOPE, budgets, timelines, matter-level progress reports, and communicate progress and changes needed to key stakeholders.
  • Identify and execute Firm process improvement projects
  • Assist in the development of legal project management tools, resources and technologies, including software, templates, checklists, databases and forms
  • Initiate and implement ideas for improving profitability
  • Stay abreast of trends in Legal Project Management
  • Deliver strong customer service, commit to meeting deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Understand law firm processes and attorney-client relationships
  • Manage large projects with complex variables and budgets and cooperate with teams of Members, attorneys, and other legal personnel
  • Perform other duties as needed for Firm success

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 6+ years of project management or comparable experience
  • Law firm, corporate legal department or other similar service industry experience preferred
  • Work efficiently in a matrix environment, frequently collaborating with the PGLs (Practice Group Leaders), Billing, Accounting, Information Center, Business Development & Marketing, or other administrative departments as needed
  • Demonstrate understanding of process and project management concepts, including establishing workflows and the use of process mapping and after-matter reviews
  • Possess excellent technological skills, including a high level of finesse with Microsoft Office and strong experience working with financial and data information systems
  • Travel required, as necessary

Working Conditions:
Normal law office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, extreme temperature and the like.
